ePropulsion unveils the X40, its first medium-power electric outboard

Electric outboard motor manufacturer ePropulsion is entering a new market, with its X40 model, the first medium-power motor in the range. The Chinese brand shows its ambitions with a modern offering in terms of both style and technology.

A 40 kW electric outboard from ePropulsion

Chinese electric motor specialist ePropulsion unveiled its new X40 model at the end of October 2023. This 40 kW outboard motor is the first of its kind for the brand, which had limited itself to 6 kW in outboards, but had started to ramp up power with its first inboards from 10 to 100 kW in 2022. It also marks a new stage, with a modernized design compared to the rest of the range, reflecting ePropulsion's determination to enter this new market.

Fully integrated functions

The new X40, operating on 96V, weighs just 99 kg. The manufacturer has announced an 88.2% efficiency of transmissions, excluding the optimized propeller. Autonomy on an aluminum V hull with 2 people and 2 x 10.2 kWh batteries is 22.3 miles at full power, according to the manufacturer.

All the main functions are integrated into the motor, including electric steering, which eliminates the need for hydraulics, and enables a range of possibilities, such as heading, position-holding or various rotations. Trim and tilt are assisted. The motor also incorporates a vibration-damping system for operation at 73 dBA.
