Honda 350 hp, the Japanese engine manufacturer enters the world of high-power outboards

Unveiled as a world premiere at Grand Pavois 2023, Honda's 350 hp heralds a revival of the brand, and an interest in the marine market. Based on a 5-liter V8 block, this engine is already on the market.

Japanese outboard engine manufacturer Honda completes its range with a 350 hp model. Since 2008 and the introduction of the 250 hp, the range has evolved, but without offering more power. With the announcement of the 350 hp, Honda is once again entering the race to respond to the competition.

A V8 developed for the navy

This 350 hp engine is based on a 5-liter (exactly 4952 cm3 ) 4-stroke V8. It's worth noting that, while the lower power ratings use engine blocks from the brand's automotive and motorcycle products, this V8 block has been specifically developed for marine use. In fact, it's the largest displacement ever developed by the Japanese manufacturer.

All the Honda technology on board

This V8 is open at 60°. It's narrow enough to be used as a twin, or even a triple. It features VTEC - Variable Valve Timing and lift Electronic Control. In terms of design, we've worked hard to achieve this look, and there's a good chance we'll see it applied to other power ratings in the future. After a few problems with the 250 hp model, which forced the manufacturer to abandon it, Honda has reinstalled an oxygen sensor on this 350 hp model. This sensor adjusts fuel consumption according to oxygen levels in the exhaust gases, optimizing combustion efficiency. Announced at 357 kg unladen, the 350 hp Honda is within the engine weight range, 310 kg for the Mercury V10 and 410 kg for the Yamaha V8.

Can't wait for the first tests

For the time being, we've only been able to discover this brand-new engine in the dry at the Grand Pavois 2023 boat show in La Rochelle, where it was on display to the general public for the first time. It's therefore impossible to form an opinion on the sweet sound of this machine, even if Honda has announced a particularly low level of noise and vibration.

An attractive introductory price

This 350 hp outboard is now available in grey or white, at a price of ?34,999 (2023 price list), regardless of shaft length. This engine does not include any additional accessories, such as integrated electric steering. Options that we regret not to find in the catalog. The 10-year warranty introduced in the French network also applies to this brand-new motor. All the more reassuring for users.
