A protected port side passage to access the foredeck
Finnish builder Yamarin, represented in France by engine manufacturer Yamaha, is expanding its range of daycruisers. At 8.28 m in length, the new Yamarin 80 DC is the Nordic manufacturer's second-largest model. The 8.02 m-long 79 DC will also remain in the range.
What sets this model apart from other Nordic boats is its deck layout, which features a side passage to port, through the windshield to the foredeck. In fact, it's the only model from the shipyard to feature this forward passageway. Normally, access to the foredeck is more central.
This design was intended by the shipyard to break into the leisure boat market and target a new demographic, as Artturi Niittynen, Sales and Marketing Director at Yamarin, explains: "Our boats have always been very popular in Norway, Sweden and Finland, but the starting point when designing this new daycruiser was that it would also appeal to boaters in the Mediterranean, Florida and Australia."

A front beach for disembarking or relaxing
This new design also allows for a larger bow access door than on a traditional center opening. The Yamarin 80 DC nevertheless retains a decked foredeck, to facilitate docking. In the Nordic countries, docking is often via the bow, so it was important to retain a safety feature. As daycruisers are also used for multi-day cruises, it was also important to retain comfortable overnight accommodation.
In the Mediterranean, boats tend to be moored at the stern. The foredeck makes sense as a living space. This passageway also facilitates mooring. The cabin, on the other hand, is more suited to changing clothes, but also to relaxing on day cruises.

A mix between walkaround and day cruiser
Design work on this new model began in 2021. The in-house design team collaborated with R2 Marine, who focused on hull design and functionality. Northern Works, experts in vehicle planning and design, led by designer Miika Heikkinen and Italian designer Marco Casalli, also contributed their skills.
Artturi Niittynen explains: "Marco Casalli has brought new ideas and challenged the traditional design philosophy of Nordic boats. In particular, he has combined the positive aspects of walkaround and daycruiser solutions, allowing even more flexible use of the foredeck, without compromising forward cabin space and windshield protection."

A forward cabin for resting or sleeping, depending on the program
The Yamarin 80 DC has a spacious forward cabin for sleeping, illuminated by the hull windows. A deck hatch also provides ventilation. To port, under the side passageway to the bow, is a small bench seat. There's also a separate electric toilet with washbasin. The forward cabin leads to a mid-cabin under the cockpit, where two adults can sleep.

A large cockpit for 8 people
The open cockpit, the boat's main space, can accommodate up to 8 people. The portside galley is equipped with stove, sink, refrigerator and storage space. Tilting the skipper's bench seat towards the helm creates a large U-shaped saloon. The back of the aft sofa also folds out aft to create a sundeck.

Q navigation screen and Yamaha motorization
The 16" Q intelligent display, with Navionics electronic navigation maps, and an optional dual screen, is fitted as standard, as is the Yamaha outboard motor. On the Yamarin 80 DC, this is a 300 hp Yamaha V6, which can also be replaced by a 225 hp engine. Maximum speed is 43 knots, and the most economical speed is 27 knots. Fuel consumption will be 1.6 liters per mile.

Attractive standard equipment
Access to the cockpit is facilitated by the two bathing platforms, equipped with steps and lockers, and a large passage behind the aft bench seat. The latter covers a locker for storing the bimini. The entire cockpit is covered by a softdeck non-slip floor covering.

Already well equipped as standard, optional equipment includes heating or air conditioning, a bimini or awning, cockpit table, sundeck and foredeck bimini.
