Test / Prim 5.5 layout: Simplicity opens up a world of possibilities

The Prim 5.5 is a deliberately versatile open hull. Its simple layout can be customized by the shipyard to meet the yachtsman's various needs, from fishing to family outings, as we found out during our test.

Space on deck

The Prim 5.5's generous beam of 2.2 meters at the main beam, combined with an open bulwark and slender jambs, give this first open hull from the Bagou Boats yard a very spacious feel on deck. The deck, with an inverted bilge to evacuate all water at the centerline, is relatively free, allowing easy circulation from the aft cockpit to the foredeck. The 75 cm-high bulwark effectively protects the crew. At first glance, it's definitely the space that stands out, all the more so as our test version is a basic one, with little seating.

Water access from both sides

At the stern, a bench closes the cockpit. On either side of the engine trough are two seats, whose seats fold away to give access to two small platforms for mooring in the water. Under the seats are storage compartments for on-board equipment.

The big brother of the Prim 5.5, the Prim 6.5 will offer direct access from one side, with a long trunk over three-quarters of the width to accommodate, for example, fishing rods.

Different cockpit configurations

On the boat tested, the first model in the series, the shipyard decided to leave the aft deck free of any fittings. However, it offers its customers a range of layout options. A double seat, facing aft, at the back of the pilot seat, can be supplied, creating a convivial cockpit space.

The pilot has access to a classic center console, with a generous passage forward on either side. The dashboard houses the control screens and electric outboard levers. Simple yet essential. A windscreen protects against sea spray.

To access the batteries below deck, the console hinges.

Storage up front

On the foredeck, there's a seat on the front of the console, as well as a large bench. Storage is accessed via a classic watertight panel on the vertical side. A cushion is available as an optional extra to make the most of the space.

A U-shaped deck saloon is also available, with a telescopic table that can be transformed into a 2m x 1.70m sundeck.

The bow anchor locker and davit are large enough for a boat of this size.

The warmth of wood

Bagou Boats has taken care to add a few finishing details to make the boat elegant and comfortable. An attractive varnished wood gunwale and stainless steel fittings give the boat a classic touch. Various stainless steel protective plates, notably at the bow, add to the boat's style.

An imitation-wood EVA foam deck provides comfort and grip underfoot.

For greater autonomy, the Prim 5.50 is available with different sizes of rigid bimini, which can be fitted with solar panels. They also provide shade in the cockpit.
