Trimaran SVR - Lazartigue: The 1st images of the modified trimaran

The SVR Lazartigue trimaran was relaunched on May 26, 2023, after the modifications imposed to settle the dispute between the Ultim Class and François Gabart, her former skipper. Here's a closer look at the exterior differences.

SVR Lazartigue trimaran relaunched

Ultim SVR Lazartigue took to the water on May 26, 2023, following a much-publicized winter refit. The big blue trimaran underwent modifications to comply with the requirements of the Ultim Class. This launch and the hopefully swift award of the measurement certificate should mark the end of the sad legal saga between the team of the boat's historic skipper, François Gabart, and the Ultim Class, concerning her compliance.

This relaunch also marks the effective change of skipper, with Tom Laperche taking over from François Gabart at the trimaran's helm.

Outwardly inconspicuous differences

The parties involved had already explained the general content of the planned modifications to the boat. To improve the skipper's visibility during navigation, including at the sail trim station, the winch columns were to be raised and the bubbles for monitoring the water level improved.

The exterior images show that the geometry of the latter has been modified. The second position, aft of the helmsman, which corresponds to the sail trimmer's position, now has a raised bubble, with transparent sides on both sides. This new version of the bubble requires the boom to be raised.

No photos of the interior have yet been released.

Apart from the work on the bubbles, no major changes are visible from the outside.

The devil was definitely in the details...
