Mantaray M24, an open foil hull with original flight control

Swedish start-up Mantaray presented its first boat, the Mantaray M24, in Stockholm at the end of April. It is an 8-meter long open hull equipped with an in-house developed and patented foil system. Unlike the foilers launched on the market, the control of these foils is entirely mechanical, to facilitate the implementation.

A military design

Swedish boatbuilder Mantaray has developed the Mantaray M24, a 24-foot open foiling hull designed by Mannerfelt Design Team. Constructed of carbon fiber, the Mantaray M24 is 7.8 m long, 2.3 m wide and displaces 1150 kg. Its angular design is characterized by a large protective windshield with a reverse side. 5 people can be seated on board, whose layout is composed of a double pilot bench on starboard and a fixed bench aft and a sunbathing area.

A self-stabilizing foil system

The first boat designed by Mantaray, it reaches a top speed of over 30 knots and a cruising speed of 25 knots, thanks to its patented foil system developed by the company Dynamic Wing Technolgy. This self-stabilizing and entirely mechanical solution provides direct feedback on the boat's maneuvers and movements to the driver.

The shipyard indicates a reduction in energy consumption of 75% compared to similar boats not equipped with foils. The range is estimated at 60 miles.

Ten years of development and a patented process

The Mantaray M24 is the result of ten years of testing this foil solution, which consists of a T-shaped foil on the bow and an H-shaped foil in the center of the boat. Retractable, they are mechanically adjustable, unlike other electric models, such as Candela for example.

Electric or thermal outboard propulsion

For the outboard propulsion, it can be electric - a Stream Propulsion motor of 37 to 47 kW and batteries of 52 kWh - or thermal with a power of 70 hp.
