Each week, we offer you a question about the boat license. To validate your knowledge or to discover unexplored areas. This week, we are tackling a question on lateral buoyage.

Shapes and colors of the buoys

The green color of the buoy and its conical shape indicate that we are in Zone A. Indeed, if we were in Zone B, the conical buoy would be red. This motor sailboat is indeed sailing in the French metropolitan waters. For more precision, this picture was taken at the entrance of Port Cros, in the Mediterranean Sea, in the Var.

In Area A, the side markings define the channels into and out of ports. When entering a port, the red cylindrical buoys are left to port and the green conical buoys are left to starboard.

To enter the harbor, this sailboat must therefore take the B course, and leave the buoy on starboard.
