MaxSea marks 40 years of marine navigation software evolution with TIMEZERO

Basque company MaxSea looks back on four decades of digital development dedicated to the sea. Founded in the 1980s around a simple idea, the company has made a name for itself on many decks. This year, the company highlights the sailors who have shaped its history.

In December 2025, MaxSea celebrates forty years of work that began on the Basque coast and has become a standard for many professionals and yachtsmen. The company looks back on a journey in which IT has gradually found its place on board, in the service of charting and navigation safety.

A project born of ocean racing

In 1985, naval architect Brice Pryszo imagined a digital tool to support ocean sailing. The first software, designed to run on the Apple, was quickly tested by racers such as Poupon, Tabarly, Jeantot and Peter Blake. Their feedback forged the reliability of the solution, which was then extended to professional fishermen and yachtsmen. "When MaxSea was born in 1985, I believed that computers could revolutionize navigation" emphasizes Brice Pryszo.

From local development to the TIMEZERO ecosystem

The 1990s and 2000s structured MaxSea's international expansion. MAPMEDIA improved map production, while SIGNET and the acquisition of Nobeltec strengthened MaxSea's presence in Europe and North America. The launch of TIMEZERO marks a turning point, with a 2D/3D engine that becomes the basis of a lasting partnership with FURUNO. All MaxSea and Nobeltec solutions now converge under this brand.

For this anniversary, a campaign entitled "Empowering Mariners for 40 years" recalls these milestones throughout December 2025. The community is invited to share its uses and experiences. "From ocean racers to professional crews and yachtsmen, seeing sailors rely on our tools is the greatest reward of all." notes Brice Pryszo, adding: "We're already preparing for the next 40 years, with you."
