Iguana amphibious boats are now available in an electric foiler version

The Iguana Yachts shipyard will launch an electric and flying version of its amphibious powerboats. A technological evolution in the logic of a voluntarily high-tech shipyard, according to its teams.

Launch of the Iguana Foiler

Normandy-based amphibious powerboat builder Iguana Yachts will unveil details of its future electric foiling model at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2022. Called Iguana Foiler, we do know some key elements of the future boat. Equipped with foils, it will be able to fly. Like the rest of the Iguana Yachts range since its creation in 2008, it will have retractable tracks that will allow it to roll autonomously on the beach and to launch itself without assistance.

Evoy, partner for electric outboard motorization

For the propulsion of the boat, Iguana Yachts has partnered with the Norwegian manufacturer of electric marine engines Evoy. The Iguana Foiler will be powered by a 300 horsepower Evoy outboard motor. The equipment manufacturer has made a specialty of fast electric boats.

By relying on hydrofoils, the manufacturer is announcing a 50% reduction in energy consumption. With complex and therefore relatively heavy boats, the foils should make it possible to maintain an autonomy compatible with the use of this type of dayboat or superyacht tender.

A market demand

Iguana Yachts confirms that it is responding to market demand and to customers attracted by electric power. A first boat has already been sold. "It's a natural evolution for a shipyard that is committed to innovation. And we have already proven that development does not scare us!" concludes the spokeswoman of the Norman shipyard.
