Garmin Quatix 7: Pilot your boat with your fingertips

Boat information readable on the Quatix watch

The Garmin Quatix watch has become an object of recognition of belonging to the community of sailors, and has a few nautical functions that make the life of the yachtsman easier. We went out to test the Quatix 7 at sea to find out.

The Garmin Quatix watch is a connected object. Linked to a smartphone, it is able to receive notifications and record many activities such as walking, heart rate or even sleep. But it is the navigation functions that are the most interesting for the navigators that we are.

Connected to a Garmin installation

Indeed, the Quatix offers the possibility to connect to a Garmin installation - and only to this brand - on board a boat. To do this, you simply pair it with your GPSMAP chartplotter so that the boat's information can be accessed from the watch. With the touch of a finger - the Quatix 7 has a touch screen! - you can pilot your boat.

Autopilot control

The most impressive feature, and probably the most practical, is the ability to take control of the autopilot. Thus, anywhere in the boat, during navigation, you will be able to engage the pilot and correct the course. This will be very useful when, lying on the front sundeck, you see a trap to avoid. Without leaving your strategic position, you will be able to change the course. Note that only the plus or minus 10 degree function is accessible with the watch's controls. You can't change it to the nearest degree.

Several practical functions

The Quatix 7 can also control the music playing on the Fusion channel, a Garmin proprietary brand. You can change the volume, skip to the next song or pause it.

Other functions such as a tide directory is also available. Or the possibility to display the sea chart on the screen. Even if the resolution is good, we tested a Quatix 7 Sapphire with its Amoled screen, we must admit that the small size does not really facilitate navigation and this function appeared to us more like a gadget than a real navigation tool.

Et en plus, elle donne aussi l'heure ;-)
And moreover, it also gives the time ;-)

The Quatix 7 is available in 3 versions from 699 euros. The Quatix 7 Sapphire Edition presented in this topic is sold at 999 euros (price 2022)
