Howth's fishing harbor also houses a large, modern marina. But if you prefer to drop anchor, a mooring area west of the harbor will allow you to enjoy the immense sandy beach of Claremont which is discovered at low tide.
Where to dock in Howth
By dinghy, you can enter the harbor and moor at the foot of a staircase near the lighthouse for example. The Eye of Ireland, the island north of the harbor, is also accessible by dinghy for a nature discovery. Many birds nest there. You can also disembark directly on the beach which is only a few steps from the lively waterfront of the village.
Getting to Dublin from Howth
When visiting Ireland, the great advantage of the Howth anchorage is that it is very easy to get to the center of Dublin with the DART. This suburban train runs very regularly and reaches the center of the Irish capital in less than half an hour for about 2.50 euros. The station, easily accessible, is located along the beach.
A lively downtown
Near the station and the town center, there is a small grocery store and many places to eat or have an ice cream as well as the Howth market. Along the harbor, there is a green promenade where you can picnic in the grass or keep the kids busy in the playground. There are also recycling bins and public toilets along the harbor.
Numerous activities all around the port
From the harbor, you can go to the Baily Lighthouse, see the remains of St. Mary's Church, admire the castle, take a golf tour, or visit the National Transportation Museum. In addition, the peninsula is famous for its hiking trails with fantastic views of the sea. Go there at sunset for an even more extraordinary experience!
