Route du Rhum 2022 : The last sailors registered for the Transat unveiled

There were 18 places left to participate in the Route du Rhum 2022, delivered at the discretion of the organization. The names of the lucky winners have just been revealed, completing the final list of 138 yachts at the start of the solo transatlantic race on November 6, 2022.

Allocation of the 18 Wild Cards for the Route du Rhum 2022

On April 6, 2022, the Route du Rhum organizers unveiled the list of 120 sailors registered for the solo transatlantic race, in accordance with the notice of race. But they had also announced the attribution of 18 additional invitations bringing the number of boats to 138, without revealing the lucky winners. It is now done this April 27.

The IMOCA boats are the main guests of the Transat

More numerous on the waiting list, the IMOCA boats are logically the largest contingent of invitations. In the context of a race for miles to qualify for the Vendée Globe, discussions between the Class and the organizers have resulted in the allocation of 10 Wild Cards. They are Sébastien Marsset, Xu Jingkun, Conrad Colman, Nicolas Rouger, James Harayada, Oliver Heer, Damien Seguin, Alan Roura, Yannick Bestaven and Rodolphe Sépho.

Prestigious sailors in Rhum Multi

The Route du Rhum also takes care of its headliners by inviting 4 sailors, some of whom made the news in the top multihull or IMOCA classes a few years ago. Philippe Poupon will be at the start with Florence Arthaud's former trimaran Pierre 1er. Roland Jourdain will compete with a linen catamaran, while Marc Guillemot will sail on a self-built catamaran. Finally, Loïc Escoffier is also registered in the category.

In the Rhum class monohulls, Julien Reemers and Jean-Sébastien Biard join the list of participants.

Two more Ultims in the race

The last 2 guests are joining the prestigious category of the big trimarans. Arthur Le Vaillant should participate on Yves Le Blévec's former Actual trimaran. Romain Pilliard, who is currently bringing back his trimaran following the failure of his round the world trip in reverse, will participate on his multihull in the race.

The final lists are as follows:
