Route du Rhum 2022, the list of skippers unveiled euros few exceptions

The race management of the Route du Rhum Destination Guadeloupe 2022 has just unveiled the official list of the 120 participants confirmed by the notice of race, with some notable absentees... The names of the 18 other invited sailors (Wild Card) will be revealed throughout the month of April, even if some of them have already announced their participation.

138 skippers at the start of the Route du Rhum 2022

The race director Francis Le Goff had announced it when we interviewed him, this edition of the Route du Rhum Destination Guadeloupe 2022 was already announced as a record, far exceeding the 120 participants recorded in the notice of race. It is indeed the case since they will be 138 participants on the starting line in Saint-Malo on November 6th. The race organization reserves the right to award 18 Wild Cards whose names will be revealed throughout the month of April. As a reminder, in 2018, the selected skippers were 123âeuros¦ To continue in the figures, the race organization announces that it has received 149 applications for the opening in July 2021.

A few surprises and names in the airâeuros¦

If there are no surprises for the Ultim and Ocean Fifty classes, the fleets are complete and even François Gabart is among those registered, the IMOCA class shows some absentees, at least for the moment. Will Yannick Bestaven (Maitre Coq), the last winner of the 2021 Vendée Globe, Alan Roura who bought the former Hugo Boss from Alex Thomson (Hublot) or Clarisse Crémer (Banque Populaire) receive one of these famous invitations? Also on the list is Jéremie Beyou's team but without a skipperâeuros¦ Who will be at the helm of Charal 1 knowing that Jéremie Beyou will have received his new IMOCA Charal 2, launched in June 2022âeuros?

In the same way, in the Rhum Multi class, Philippe Poupon and Roland Jourdain have announced their participation but do not appear in the official list.

Titleholders on the starting line

Note that this edition will bring together four title holders in their category: Francis Joyon (Idec Sport) in the Ultimates trimarans, Paul Meilhat (Biotherm) in the IMOCA class, Armel Tripon (Les P'tits Doudous) in the Ocean Fifty class, Yoann Richomme (Paprec âeuros Arkea) in the Class40 class.

Nothing is won yetâ?¦

All that remains for these skippers to validate their final registration is to complete all the formalities imposed by the notice of race: qualifying course, participation in the other races of the season, measurement checks for new boatsâeuros¦
