The Mini Transat Eurochef (new partner of the race) will start on September 26, 2021 from Les Sables d'Olonne, in the direction of Saint-François in Guadeloupe after a stopover in Santa Cruz, Madeira. Initially open to 84 skippers, the race opens new places to meet the enthusiasm it generates year after year.

137 skippers had pre-registered at the opening on December 15. However, only 84 places were available for the start. As a reminder, participants must meet certain race and non-race qualification requirements to compete in the famous Mini-Transat.

In order to meet the demand of the sailors, the organization, in agreement with the Mini 6.50 Class, the French Sailing Federation, the maritime authorities but also the host cities, has decided to enlarge the number of participants for this 2022 edition to 90. This means that 6 more participants will have the opportunity to cross the Atlantic. Nevertheless, there are still skippers on the waiting list.

"Draconian qualification criteria aimed at guaranteeing the maximum safety of the sailors are established for each edition, which imposes a limit on the number of competitors. In this context, candidates who have validated all the qualification requirements can then find themselves on the waiting list and, in the end, not take the start of the event. While it is impossible to meet everyone's expectations, we have worked to give as many sailors as possible the chance to take part in the race, and this maximum now stands at 90. This opens the doors to six new sailors explains Marc Chopin, President of Korrigan, the organizer of the event.
