Test / Astus 22.5 : A trimaran does not cost 3 times the price of a monohull !

The Astus 22.5 at anchor in La Trinité sur Mer

Last part of our test of the Astus 22.5. We come back to the price and the options of the last trimaran of Astus Boats, as well as its positioning on the market compared to boats with a comparable sailing program or size.

A trimaran ready to sail for less than 50 000euros TTC

In standard configuration, Astus Boats offers its new trimaran with the necessary equipment for navigation:

  • Aluminium Mast and Boom Rigging
  • Mainsail and jib in dacron from Sails Concept
  • Trampolines
  • Front balcony
  • Piano winches and listening on the roof
  • Deck panels and roof windows

The set is sold at a price of 49 800euros TTC.

Options for performance or cruising equipment

The customer can then choose from a wide range of optional equipment to adapt the boat to his sailing program.

He can choose between 2 models of gennaker, leisure or sport, an asymmetric spinnaker or upwind sails for sport sailing. The shipyard also offers an optional carbon rig, with textile shrouds.

Most of the cruising amenities are optional, from the galley to the bunk mattresses to the navigation lights to the aft balconies that serve as the helmsman's backrest.

Delivered without electricity or electronics on board, the trimaran can be equipped with different packs, standard on batteries or in solar panel version. It is the same for the electronics.

Finally, a series of options will interest nomadic users. The yard offers a road trailer, as well as a matting goat.

Well positioned on the Made in France trimaran market

On the trimaran market of comparable size, few players are present. The French company Tricat is a direct competitor, with its Tricat 6.90, while Corsair Marine and Dragonfly are only starting to offer liveaboard boats from 25 feet upwards, with units that are much larger and higher on the water. With a standard price of 52,500 euros including tax at Tricat, the boats are definitely competitors.

If it is possible to find monohulls of the same length built in Poland at lower prices, it seems more relevant to look at French shipyards interested in the fast coastal cruising program comparable to the Astus 22.5. Also offering 4 berths, we can for example note the Flow 19, from Atelier Interface at 35,000 euros TTC, even though it is more than a meter shorter. Reaching lower speeds, the Djinn 7 from B2 Marine is proposed at 41 500euros TTC.

As we can see, sailing on 3 hulls has a price, but the stability and performance of the boat are different, as well as the complexity of the assemblies. One thing is sure, for multihull enthusiasts, the Astus 22.5 is well positioned in its market.
