Customization and personalization, example of Privilege catamarans

Privilège is a manufacturer of catamarans intended for a high-end clientele. How to meet the expectations of these owners by offering them a product perfectly adapted to their needs? Rachel Bulteau explains the sales process to us.

Privilège builds catamarans from 51 to 74 feet. Sailing models and a motor model. These boats are intended for a clientele that generally goes on long voyages. They like and wish to adapt their boat to their program. The shipyard is therefore able to meet the expectations of customers by offering them different layouts or even completely custom units.

The manufacturing process is long, from 9 to 18 months depending on the size of the boat. The role of the shipyard's teams is to guide the future owners throughout this process to help them make their choice. The first step will be to decide on the layout and mainly the number of cabins: 3 or 4 in general. Indeed, if the layouts can be modified, there are partitions which form the structure of the catamaran which can never be moved.

Then comes the time to validate the functions of the different spaces of the boat. Thus, a gangway can be fitted out as a dressing room with numerous storage spaces or as an office with a work area. The forward points could for example be used as a workshop. A barbecue can also be integrated in the cockpit..

Choices are made throughout the sales process, during which the client comes regularly to the shipyard to follow the progress of the construction of his catamaran. During this time, the shipyard remains open to them and they can discuss with the teams about the choice of equipment for example or even about the choice of materials (fabrics, veneers, worktops...).

The role of the site is also to guide these future owners. It has an advisory role. For example, for the heating, we will be able to guide them towards a reversible air conditioning or simply a heating according to the program planned with the boat. The technical service will be able to advise and accompany the customer towards more durable or less expensive solutions than those planned.

Finally, throughout the construction process, every Friday the client receives a photographic review of his boat under construction. He is also invited to each important phase of the construction such as the installation of the deck or the launching. This allows him to stay in touch with the shipyard and to ask questions, even from a distance, to have a catamaran that best suits his needs.
