6 cruising catamarans for less than 100 000

Stability, habitability, comfort The advantages of the catamaran make it the ideal boat for long voyages. Although new models are regularly launched, they are not suitable for the most modest budgets. We have therefore selected 6 models of sailing catamarans for family trips, available second-hand for less than 100,000 euros!

The catamaran, the ally of the long journey

For the past few years, multihulls have been on a roll! Stable and spacious, it is the ideal candidate for long voyages. From 30 or 35 feet, it offers more living space than a monohull of the same size. In the hulls, there are several cabins with their own bathroom, separated from the living area for greater comfort. A layout that preserves intimacy and that can be appreciated by families on long cruises.

The living area is also large and often on the same level as the cockpit, so you can easily enjoy the outside.

When sailing, although the catamaran is much more stable since it does not heel, it will have a tendency to pitch at certain points of sail. The catamaran is certainly faster downwind, but it is less easy to get upwind than a monohull.

Today, several shipyards specialize in sailing multihulls, but prices are often high. We have found 6 models of used catamarans between 57,000 and 85,000 euros to cast off!

Edel Cat 35 - 43 000 euros

L' Edel 35 is a catamaran designed by Maurice Edel and built by the Edel shipyard from 1985 to 1995. With a length of 10.60 m, it offers four independent cabins. Good seaworthiness, easy to handle, it is one of the flagship models of the 80s. However, the deckhouse is small, limiting the volume of the saloon. Note that the hulls are accessible from the cockpit (and not from the saloon).

Maldives 32 - 57 000 euros

The Madives 32 is a "small" cruising catamaran built by the Fountaine Pajot shipyard at the end of the 80s on Nivelt plans. With a length of less than 10 m, it offers up to 4 cabins but its living space is rather limited. With its very rounded design - float and roof - it is easily recognizable. Easy to maneuver, it is easily beached and therefore perfect for getting closer to the coast. Finally, its large trampoline at the front offers a nice additional living area.

Aventura 36 - 59 000 euros

L' Aventura 36 (10.89 m) is the most recent of our selection since it was built in 1993 by Go Catamarans. She offers a spacious and well appointed living area with up to 4 cabins. Here, the large cockpit is open to the rear, facilitating access on board and outdoor living. This is the first catamaran to offer a saloon directly connected to the cockpit.

Overseas 40 - 85,000 euros

Outremer 40
Overseas 40

L' Overseas 40 is the first official design for Outremer, designed by Gérard Danson. Launched in 1985, this 12.10 m long catamaran offers up to 4 cabins and a great helming feeling. This model also has a rounded roof and a very large front trampoline, the cockpit being quite small, like most of the liveaboard catamarans of this time. With its daggerboards, this boat is not afraid of upwind sailing. But despite its size, it lacks volume in the accommodation compared to modern production.

Concept 33 - 85 000 euros

This 10m Lerouge design is easily recognizable with its flying saucer shaped roof with rectangular windows. Like all the boats designed by the architect, the Concept 33 is a fast and seaworthy sailing boat. On board, you will find everything you need to live comfortably as a family, double and/or single berths, bathroom, kitchen, etc.

Tobago 35 - 89 000 euros

The Tobago 35 is a catamaran launched in 1993 by the French manufacturer Fountaine Pajot. With its 3 cabins (but only one bathroom), it allows to sail comfortably up to 6 people. The only drawback is that the cabins have no doors. Lightweight, the Tobago 35 is fast and safe enough for long cruises. Fairly simple in terms of layout, it nevertheless offers good value for money for tight budgets.
