My starter doesn't work
- The battery that may be discharged or insufficiently charged
- Poor quality contacts at the battery terminals or starter motor connections
My engine won't start
- The engine stop may not have been pushed back..
- Pre-heating is not switched on or faulty
My engine is sputtering
My engine shuts off
- Out of order
- Clogged filter
- Clogged diesel fuel feed pipe
- Bacteria-contaminated diesel fuel
- Diesel fuel contaminated by water
- Defective injector
My engine's choking
If the fuel tank vent is blocked, the engine chokes because it cannot suck in fuel. To check this, open the filler neck. If the engine starts again, the vent was blocked.
My motor's not running properly
It's probably an injector defect. Loosen and tighten them one by one to find out which one it is. The one that needs to be changed is the one that doesn't change the engine speed.
My engine vibrates or knocks
- Alignment problem or silent block, motor may be misaligned or propeller shaft twisted.
- Injector or injection pump problem.
My engine smokes white
It's vaporized water coming out of the exhaust. This can be normal if it's cold - like fog - otherwise it can mean :
- Your engine heats up
- Bacteria in diesel fuel
- A ruptured cylinder head gasket that allows water to enter the cylinders.
My engine smokes black
- Your engine does not have enough air, clean the air filter
- Your engine's powering up, maybe you got something stuck in the propeller..
- Incorrectly adjusted injection pump
- Badly tared injector that injects too much diesel fuel
My engine smokes blue
- Too much oil, check the oil level and remove it with a drain pump
- Cylinders are worn
- Broken segments
- Clearance in the valve guides.
The water temperature alarm lights up
This means there is a problem in the cooling circuit.
- The seawater inlet valve is closed
- Strainer or prefilter obstruction
- Air intake in the seawater circuit
- Broken pump impeller blades
- Coolant level too low
- Thermostat problem
- Fouling of the heat exchanger.
The oil pressure alarm lights up
In this case, stop your engine immediately
- Oil level too low
- Heeling of the boat too great
