Test / Pricing and alternatives to the Excess 15, a basic price for sailing

The Excess 15 is a chic and high-performance unit, provided that you use the indispensable options that will give it its personality

A standard rate ready to sail

The starting price of the Excess 15 set at 625,000 euros HT is approximately 30,000 euros higher than that of the Lagoon 50, of which it uses part of the production equipment. It is however more complete including the sails in grey dacron with the orange anti UV strip, the davits for the tender, the complete electrical circuit, the pressurized hot water circuit, the windlass and its mooring... At this price, it is possible to sail soberly with the delivery: antifouling, fenders and mooring plus the essential Electronic Pack. But it would be a shame not to take full advantage of this beautiful platform of nautical fun by depriving it of the playful options that its catalogue offers and which give it its essence.

Performance and comfort options

The Excess 11 is eager to express herself, especially if she is fitted with her Pulse Line rig, canoe boom, gennaker and asymmetric spinnaker. These performance options are ideally accompanied by folding propellers and electric winches for fast and effortless manoeuvring. What seems unavoidable to us is the sunroof, especially at 5,554 euros (excl. VAT). In terms of comfort, everything is available as in a deep-sea cruising catamaran, watermaker, household appliances, air conditioning, hi-fi and a generator that goes with it. Our boat was equipped with almost all the options for 925,730 euros HT, but if we want to keep the playful character of the craft, it is better to weigh up the relevance of its needs, so as not to weigh down the gondola too much and compromise the efforts made on the rigging.

What about the competition?

The Excess 15 is making a remarkable entrance, as it finds itself quite alone in this market of mass-produced, grand touring catamarans. Practically all the mass-produced manufacturers have abandoned this slightly sporty catamaran niche, with the exception of Nautitech, but there are no 50-footers. We can also rule out from this comparison, the resolutely more sporty units such as the Outremers 51 , TS5 or other Soubise 49 that's coming back. As a result, there are a few small construction sites that present very convincing products. The Slyder 49, the ITA 14.99 or the Windelo 50 which will make its appearance in 2021. But all of them are much lighter and a little more expensive. Finally in this new ratio performance/comfort/pleasure/budget it is the Trimaran Neel 51 who might be the closest opponent.
