A book to help you Build your wooden boat

Building a boat: often a childhood dream. In this book the naval architect François Vivier, specialist in wooden constructions, accompanies us to understand, learn and build his own wooden boat. A new reference in the field.

Le Bouvet (named after the planer used to make grooves in wood) is a magazine about woodworking (Le magazine des amoureux du bois). Although shipbuilding is not their core business, this publisher has decided to put the know-how of shipbuilding in the spotlight. That's great, because there aren't many books detailing shipbuilding techniques. This new book is even the only one available in French today (there are a few in English and the French books are all out of print).

In 2018, Le Bouvet published a 100-page special issue on wooden boat construction techniques . Written by François Vivier, this special edition was so popular that it is now out of print. On the strength of this success, Le Bouvet decided to take up the theme again, but with a new addition. Thus "Building your boat in wood: Principles - Techniques - Plans" is based on the same work plan, but this time in 160 pages.

In this book François Vivier proposes to discover the various constructions of boat in traditional wood (techniques, vocabulary, details...), but also in "modern" wood (epoxy plywood). The book ends with the follow-up of the construction of a 4.37 m sail-and-row canoe, the Mesker. The plans are available and the book helps you to start building, whether in classic clinker planking or in CP.

Already well done with the previous special edition, this complete book will enrich the library of amateur shipbuilding enthusiasts. And even if we are not yet ripe to embark on a project like this one, turning the pages of this book and discovering the gestures and assemblages on sketches and photos, already opens the field of possibilities and the door of dreams.
