Swan 58, the new fast cruising sailboat for around the world

The builder of the elegant ocean-going cruising yachts Nautor Swan will soon launch the Swan 58, a new size for Swan, even though it has already produced 59 or 57 feet. Designed to travel in safety, comfort and autonomy, it won't sacrifice the pleasure of helming in any way.

Cruising and performance

The Swan 58 - with a length of around 18 m (17.96 m or 58.92 feet) - has a slim hull, not too high freeboards and a nearly flush roof, characteristic of the brand and style introduced by the Swan 65 and 78. A pure style with soft and rounded shapes signed German Frers.

The hull is inspired by recent ocean racing yachts while offering more volume and more surface area. To optimise the centre of gravity and weights, all electrical systems and the various tanks are installed below the waterline. The construction is made of fiberglass sandwich with carbon reinforcements and foam core, vinylester resin, vacuum infusion. The standard draft is 2.70 m, but several options are available, including a telescopic keel.

Solo or crew

This fast cruising yacht will have to be capable of being sailed single-handed or by a couple, but also be able to take part in crewed regattas of the IRC/ORC rule. For the latter use, the manufacturer offers the Performance Pack as an option. The mast is retreated to gain in performance and carbon standard, as is the boom. The bowsprit is also standard and can be fitted with a symmetrical spinnaker. A choice of 4 headsails is offered: gennaker, code 0, jib, staysail. As an option, it is possible to install a self-tacking rail for staysail and/or jib.

The cockpit, central area of the boat

The large cockpit is divided into several living areas and protected by coamings. At the stern, the large bathing platform for bathing and access to the tender garage, in the centre, the two steering wheels with the electric winches nearby, the footbridges and the possibility to sit on the coamings.

Finally, at the bow, there are two L-shaped benches opposite each other with two cockpit tables opening a central passage, which can be connected to accommodate a total of 10 people for lunch. This space will also be transformed into a large sunbathing area. A sunbathing area can be installed thanks to cushions on the roof. A protective canopy or bimini can be installed to protect the cockpit.

A spacious and comfortable interior

Inside, several layout options are available, starting with the owner's version, with a large forward owner's cabin with a private head and separate shower. Two cabins - double berth or two single berths - are located at the stern as well as a second toilet with separate shower and additional toilets.

As an option, a 4th cabin can be installed in the centre of the boat for guests or crew. A crew cabin with shower and toilet can also be installed in the forepeak.

The saloon is spacious and bright - several hull portholes bring light inside - with a U-shaped saloon on the port side, a bench seat on the starboard side and a galley on the stern with all the necessary equipment. On the starboard side, the chart table is installed on the stern, with 5 different layouts: office, facing the sea..

The Swan 58 offers plenty of storage space and large tank capacity for long, long-distance travel. In addition, a generator can easily be installed in the engine hold.
