The show took place in the south of France this weekend with the launch of Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez. Here are the regattas that took place from September 28 to 29, 2019.

Autumn Cup of the Yacht Club de France (29 September)

As a prelude to Voiles de Saint-Tropez, 35 sailboats entered in the Coupe d'Automne du Yacht Club de France joined the golf course on Saturday 28 September. The start was given at 10:15 am this Sunday 29th in the Bay of Cannes, to race to Saint-Tropez, 23 nautical miles away. A sailing that took place upwind - sometimes very close - in a SW'ly wind.

It is the Tofinou 9.5 Pitch by Patrice Riboux, which wins in its category of traditional spirits, Sonda to Eric Leprince in the marconi category of less than 15 metres, Blitzen by Jacques Kade in more than 15 metres, and France by Pierre Bausset, who leads Il Moro di Venezia in the 12 m JI category.

RS:X World Championships (September 24-28)

236 riders (RS:X) from 47 nations around the world competed in the RS:X World Championships at La Torbole, on Lake Garda, Italy. With 11 races run, Pierre Le Coq showed consistency by staying at the front all week. After a final race on Saturday 28 September in light wind (8-11 knots) Pierre finished third overall behind the Dutch riders Kiran Badloe and Dorian van Rijsselberghe and won another bronze medal.

Thomas Goyard finished in 6th place, Louis Giard was 18th, and Lucie Belbeoch 13th.

Mini-Transat La Boulangère

When will the Mini-Transat leave? While the organisation had hoped for a start this weekend on 28 and 29 September 2019, it was finally postponed. The interview window has closed and the expected weather in the Bay of Biscay does not allow the fleet to take off.

"We summoned the riders today because we really thought there was a possibility of leaving. If a window came up, you had to grab it. Unfortunately, conditions deteriorated overnight and the front expected on Tuesday resumed much activity. We expect a 30-knot wind, with gusts to 40 knots, and waves of 3.5 to 4 metres" explains Denis Hughes, race director

Christian Dumard, meteorologist of the race, specifies "This front sweeps across the Bay of Biscay and there is no way to bypass it from the south, including by placing waypoints (virtual marks)."

For the moment, the departure is not scheduled until at least Wednesday, October 2. We must also monitor the trajectory of Cyclone Lorenzo, which could impact the Bay of Biscay at the end of next week with winds of 50 knots.
