Just because the engine is down doesn't mean you can't navigate. Hugo continues to discover the West Indies despite an engine failure. With friends on board (it's easier to manoeuvre if there are several of us), he will anchor in heavenly places.
All these manoeuvres under sail, as a good professional skipper, Hugo describes them to us in great detail. And even if the boat is not big and it is easier to handle a small sailboat, Hugo doesn't hesitate to take a reef or two to make it easier to handle under sail.
He also uses a road jib hoisted on a drop-down forestay when he has to sail upwind in strong winds. Flatter, the sail is more efficient than the furling genoa.
After sailing, it's time to anchor and fish. With his harpoon gun, Hugo catches a beautiful sole that will make a good meal for the three friends before landing on land for the evening.
