Do you remember Gilles Belmonte's adventures? This naval frigate captain in 1800 comes back with a third episode of his saga. After scouring the Atlantic, the first two volumes had left our hero trapped by the English. But that was without counting on the resources of this man, who as soon as he was freed took to the sea. Without saying too much not to reveal the plot, he will return to the helm of his Equality with his brave crew for a campaign in the Indian Ocean.
This time it is against (or with!) pirates that he will have to fight. And even if the English is still present, it is the portrait of a new family of sailors that the author Fabien Clauw paints for us in this third volume. Sailing, gusting winds in the south, discovering the islands of Reunion Island and Mauritius, we sail around Africa living even the passage of a cyclone...
The emerges from the adventure story with the hero loved by everyone from whom his wife awaits him at the end of the world, with his battles and his deaths, nothing is missing in this story so that we can read it once again from beginning to end without letting go of it.
But if we discover in "Le pirate de l'Indien" another facet of navigation of the time, the story gets lost in the historical explanations by trying to stick as closely as possible to the story. Fortunately, this penchant for history does not detract from the dynamism of the adventure.
As in good TV series, the end of the episode is there to make our mouth water. Fabien Clauw uses the suspense to make us want to discover the volume that we already know will be called "Captain de Bonaparte". All that remains is to get to anchor and look forward to this next volume.
