A Sea-Tags power plant to protect against falling into the sea

The Sea-Tags bracelet is evolving. Following customer feedback (the launch took place in 2016), this young company now offers a power plant to be installed on the boat. New functions with the objective of protecting man overboard at all times.

Sea-Tags, a deliberately simple system

Sea-Tags is a small orange bracelet that can be worn on the wrist. It emits a Bluetooth signal that is received by a smartphone. If the signal is interrupted, indicating that the wearer of the bracelet has fallen into the water, the smartphone alerts the edge with an alarm and can even send a message to land (SMS).

The principle of the Sea-Tags system remains simplicity. The bracelet connects to all smartphones on which you can download a free application. Each bracelet is sold for ?89.00 and can potentially be monitored by all smartphones on board.

The limits of Sea-Tags

The criticism of this system is that it forces users to have their smartphone with a good battery on them. Often at sea, you put your phone inside the boat to protect it from the weather conditions. On larger boats, it is also difficult to keep a Bluetooth signal throughout the length of the boat. Forward movements sometimes result in a false alarm.

Centrale Sea-Tags

A power plant for large boats

For all these reasons, Sea-Tags is launching a central unit for 2019, which will monitor all the bracelets on board. This screen is in Bluetooth connection with the bracelets (up to 40 bracelets), but above all it can send the alert to all the electronic instruments of the boat.

Indeed, the plant is compatible with NMEA 0183 and 2000. In case of an alert, it sends a MOB sentence to the network. Thus, depending on the settings, the alert is displayed on the plotter, can intervene on the pilot, shut down the engine... With a phone paired with the central office, you can also send messages ashore.

Always for more security

While the Sea-Tags bracelet in its first version is intended for all boaters who use a small boat without equipment (without batteries or electronics) for a lower investment, the power unit meets the expectations of crews on larger boats for which a fixed (and more expensive) installation is less of a problem.
