Chausey Memory of Islanders

A book for lovers of the Chausey archipelago. A book that stands out from the many others and that for once highlights the islanders by giving voice to their memory.

The Chausey Islands are bewitching. Just put your foot on the ground and this archipelago will captivate you. Obviously the editor of this book, Elisabeth Nodinot did not resist the charms either. In this book very nicely illustrated by the photos of Thomas Jouanneau, she went to meet the"inhabitants" of the island.

Chausey Mémoires d'îliens

Not many of them stay on the island all year round now. But with their memories, their anecdotes, their stories, they draw us a portrait of the island as they lived it.

Chausey Mémoires d'îliens

Even if it is organized into major themes (arrival, childhood, daily life, fishing, visitors, the turning point and today), reading this book leaves a little taste of dissatisfaction. The connoisseurs of the places will find their experience in these stories. For the others, it is difficult to follow a thread in these very precise and not very explanatory testimonies. Each time a small description indicating the context is missing so that the story can be fully appreciated.

On the photo side, Thomas Jouanneau obviously enjoyed his shots, managing to draw a portrait of these islands without masking the reality of an untidy courtyard or a cluttered hold. It is finally in these pictures that I found the true character of the island.
