Special Edition / Semi-rigid comparison Brig, Eagle 600 in front of the Navigator 610

Brig Navigator 610 VS Eagle 600

The Brig semi-rigid manufacturer offers 2 models of equivalent size in its catalogue: the Eagle 600 and the Navigator 610. We have opposed them in this comparison in order to show the differences of each of these ranges. A good case study that shows how differences in hull design influence the behaviour and use of the boat.

The Ukrainian semi-rigid manufacturer Brig is a very important player on the semi-rigid market. A manufacturer for 25 years, this shipyard now has 280 employees and produced 2800 boats over 5 m last year. Imported into France since 3 years, it offers a wide range of boats from 2.75 to 10.00 m.

We were interested in two models of equivalent size. Why offer 2 boats of 6 m? What are the differences between a Navigator 610 and an Eagle 600? How to direct your choice at the time of a purchase?

Talking characteristics

If the boats are both around 6 m long, their width is not the same. The Navigator is 10 cm narrower (2.30 m vs. 2.40 m). This difference, combined with a much more pronounced V-shaped hull, gives the two boats a very different character. The Navigator is for lovers of speed and sport, the Eagle is more for comfortable strolls.

Shape of the adapted hull

On one side the Navigator has a hull with a very deep V on the front of the boat. In comparison, the Eagle has a V that quickly fades to a very flat shape at the back.

This shape offers more stability, especially when standing or anchored. The boat rolls very little. But on the other hand, if it is very fast, flat shapes have limits in navigation by rough seas. When landing on the flat of the hull after a wave jump, the boat must hit. Where the Navigator's pronounced V-shaped hull works wonders by gently penetrating into the water at the time of reception.

Behaviour and speed

With a flatter hull, the Eagle takes off very quickly without pitching up. It remains very flat, which reassures the crew. In front of him, the Navigator will require more power to launch and will pitch up during all this time of launch.

But this hull, which is more V-shaped and narrower, carries less water. At equal power (a 150 hp outboard is well suited for these 2 boats), the Navigator will flirt with 45 N while the Eagle will have difficulty reaching 40 N. Speed already honourable...

Plate and passengers

With different volumes, the two boats do not have the same reactions when it comes to loading. On the wide and stable Eagle, a passenger can quite easily move on board during navigation. He can go to bed in the sunbathing area without feeling it in the steering. On the Navigator, such a change of attitude will be strongly felt, forcing the pilot to slow down and adapt his piloting.

The Grand Pavois will take place from September 16 to 21, from 10 am to 7 pm in La Rochelle. This year, two entrances will allow a better distribution of the flow of visitors. A second entrance will be placed directly in Hall A (Worksites, rental...) to allow easier access to Halls B (Equipment, engines and services...), the Fishing Area and the Beach. The arrival of the shuttles that serve the car parks made available to visitors free of charge will be moved between the Marillac and Lazaret entrances, which is more central.

Designed for speed and bad weather, the Navigator has a fast hull that offers great sensations to its crew. On the other hand, these high speeds require us to behave and not to sail around on board. As a result, the boat is equipped with jockey seats that allow you to sit or even stand on your feet to relieve your back.

On the Eagle, more oriented towards comfort and walking, the boat receives more equipment. In addition to a large sunbathing area at the front, it is equipped with benches in front of the console and just in front of the engine. So many comfortable seats to which are added the seats of the pilot and co-pilot.
