I thought I knew the Breton ribs. With Jérôme Houyvet's photo book, I took a big slap! This photographer has the art of putting sites and places in pictures like we never did before.

Jérôme Houyvet is a photographer, but above all a paramotor pilot. This strange machine that combines a paraglider wing and a big propeller fixed in the pilot's back gives him the opportunity to take off from everywhere and fly freely over the coasts. Thus he flies and photographs alone. For this work, which flies over the coast from Mont-Saint-Michel to Trébeurden, Jérôme Houyvet spent three years exploring. To always have the best view under the most advantageous sky and taking into account the tide as well. A real ant's work which can be felt when turning the pages of this beautiful book.

Presented in landscape format, each page offers one or two photos of a site. A text written by the historian Erwan Crouan gives documented indications about the site. In the absence of a subtitle, it is mandatory to read the text to know where the photo relates to. A simple caption would have been welcome. At the end of the book, a map of the points flown over helps you to find your way around with precision.

Starting from the East and flying towards the West, this book makes us discover Northern Brittany from a resolutely innovative angle. There are many books on this certainly very beautiful coast, but Jérôme Houyvet's book is worth a look.
This book is the first volume of a collection that should see the publication of 2 other volumes: Volume 2, Finistère (May 2019) and Volume 3, Morbihan - Loire-Atlantique (May 2020).
