Bénéteau Océanis 46.1, the successor of the 45

For the end of 2018, Bénéteau announces the launch of the new Océanis 46.1. This 14.60m yacht will be the successor to the Ocanis 45 launched in 2012. The Océanis 46.1 is once again a design from the Finot Conq design office. It pushes back even further the precepts imagined for this range. A review of details before discovering this latest addition to the Vendée chanter at the September 2018 shows.

A chine hull

The chine mode, widely used in racing to offer more stability, has been well exploited on cruising yachts. Indeed, the chine offers a volume just where the berths are installed (forward or aft). Thus the cabins are now king size even on a yacht the size of the Océanis 46.1 .

A gentle descent

By deporting the mainsheet on a hoop, Pascal Conq managed to free himself from the constraint of the companionway panel. He was able to enlarge it as much as he wanted towards the front and thus obtain a very gentle descent into the cabin. In addition, this arch is very useful to attach a soft top. Even though it is well integrated on the Océanis 46.1, it is not the best visual effect. Bénéteau understood this when presenting the first sketches of its model, "forgetting" this cumbersome roll bar..

A large cockpit

With a 4.50 m master beam almost at the rear of the boat, the cockpit is really huge on the Océanis 46.1. In addition, this cockpit has 2 meridian lines on each side of the companionway which will be as many places for the sunbathing area (if you lower the famous soft top). The shipyard's press release tells us that these cushions will be able to move to be installed on deck.

Clear bypasses

In order to clear the way forward, the lower shrouds are taken up on the deckhouse while the shrouds are on the planking. This is a clever configuration that has already been tried and tested on the latest Jeanneau boats that appeared in 2017.

View on the outside of the square

This time the hull portholes are huge. They give light and a view of the sea from the saloon. This one is classic with a dining area on starboard facing a resting area and its bench seat/chart table. The L-shaped galley on the port side is ideally placed at the foot of the companionway. A configuration with the galley along the port side is also on the catalogue.

5 cabins for rent

By adding just 15 cm more to the hull length, the architect managed to fit 5 cabins in this cruiser (the Océanis 45 has only 4 cabins maximum). A configuration that should appeal to charterers. This model is available in 3 to 5 cabins with 2 to 4 toilet compartments. This is the ideal boat for your sailing style.

A performance version available

As standard, the Océanis 46.1 is fitted with a furling mainsail and a self-tacking jib. Certainly not the best performing version... The yard offers this model in a First Line version with a mast lengthened by 1 m and a sail area increased by 28%. A long draft with a cast iron ballast is also in the catalogue. Without any doubt, the version for sail "amateurs"..
