This is a richly documented and precise history: that of submarines, of every submarine in the world. Of course this story is a war story, because above all submarines were mainly used to hide from the enemy and win naval battles.
This book is written by two of the estate's pundits, Jean-Marie Mathey, who had the opportunity to command submarines, and Alexandre Sheldon-Duplaix, who works in the historical defence service. The book is organized chronologically from the origins of the submarine and its first beginnings in the nineteenth century to the latest contemporary developments.
If the book is rich in illustrations with many photographic documents of the time, we regret some exploded which would have given us better the impression of knowing a submarine"from the inside". Indeed, you will find many pictures of submarine fleet, often in black and white (normal considering the time), but very few detail pictures. It is true that we are in a world of secrecy that does not like to share images very much.
The extreme precision of the text sometimes confuses the neophyte reader (that I am). But we feel that the authors have not allowed themselves any deviation wanting a text as close to history as possible. Large size, printed on beautiful paper, with quality illustrations and a text full of details here is a book that will satisfy lovers of the genre and that will also be a perfect base for amateurs wishing to learn about the field.
And there are some! As proof this 3 e edition (reviewed and completed with the latest innovations) which shows the interest of readers.
