Melamine tableware, a Topoplastic specialty

Melamine is very light, unbreakable and not very expensive. But put together, it's still a lot of advantages, especially for boat dishes. Topoplastic has become a reference in this field with several ranges designed for nautical use or more if affinities

With its glossy finish, melamine dinnerware looks like ceramic dinnerware. But moreover, this tableware is unbreakable (or almost). That's why it's very popular to equip boats.

Melamine for dishes?

Melamine is a material derived from cellulose to which a resin is added as a binder. The manufacture of melamine parts is done with melamine powder encapsulated in a mold and heated. Once the first firing is completed (a few minutes), a printed design (melamine paper printed in offset according to a particular process) is added to the mold and the mold is put back into the oven. The printed design is completely impregnated into the material. Finally, the third and last step consists in adding a layer of transparent melamine in the mold (then annealing) to ensure the vitrification of the piece (shine and resistance).

In order to reduce the manufacturing cost, this last step is not performed by all manufacturers. The result is a lower quality dish that does not keep its shine over time and scratches much more quickly.

What resistance for melamine tableware?

Melamine tableware is resistant to everything in normal use. Melamine is resistant to scratches from a knife, but not to a jackhammer! Just like melamine will withstand a fall without risk, but may break on a strong shock or blow. Melamine can also withstand heat (but not as an oven dish) and can be put in a dishwasher. The only contraindication: do not use it in a microwave.

For 2018, this manufacturer is revitalizing its Couleur Mer line to give it a more trendy touch. In addition to a very "marine" offer with plates with designs of anchors and knots in navy blue colors that always finds its place on boats, he decided to make the tableware more colorful with a Coral Reef range with more pale colors. We will also note the new Atoll range without any design, plain in color in pale gray and pale blue tones, but structured in appearance, in the style that we see a lot in tableware stores.
