The Ultimate Actual

Yves le Blévec, who launched an attempt to set a round the world record upside down on 24th November last year, capsized on Thursday 14th December 2017, while he was off Cape Horn. Safe in his boat, he is waiting for help.

Yves le Blévec, skipper of the Utlime Actual set off on 24th November for a round the world voyage in reverse. Whilst off Cape Horn, she capsized at around 4 am on Thursday 14th December 2017. She had just rounded the hard cape at 1 h 34 min during the night of Wednesday to Thursday in difficult weather conditions: 30 to 50 knots gusting to 70 just before rounding the Cape, with 5 to 6 metre high seas.

The skipper, who is now safe in his boat, triggered his first distress beacon at 04:21 hours this Thursday morning. He then quickly triggered a second beacon to indicate the seriousness of the situation. CROSS immediately alerted the Chilean MRCC, the agency in charge of safety at sea for this area. Its team is liaising with the sailor and indicates that he is not injured and is waiting for rescue. The situation is stable : the vessel is about 30 miles south-west of Cape Horn, drifting slightly to the south-southeast, a safe area.

It was one of the trimaran's port brackets which broke, causing the Ultime to capsize. The west-northwest wind was 30 - 40 knots at the time of the capsize, there were 5m waves.
