As much a factor as a sailor, Alain Maignan distinguished himself by his extraordinary round the world trip in 2006-2007 on the Vendée Globe course in 185 days. If this sailor took twice the time of the competitors in the famous event, it is because this round the world trip was made on Schouten, a Sun Rise from Jeanneau shipyards.
Built in 1986 (31 years old on the meter!), this 10.20 m production sailboat is original. Of course, it has been revised, reinforced and redesigned to support sailing in the far south, but it is still a "Mr. Everyone's" sailboat.
10 years after this improbable navigation, and after hanging up his postman's bike, he has just set off again on a new challenge: round the world in reverse, against the wind and tide!
And since you don't change a winning team, it was Schouten, his companion as he calls him, who started on Sunday 23 September 2017 from the port of La Trinité.
By loading the 800 kg of material and food useful for this expedition, the sailboat sank 10 cm! The sailor who has prepared his navigation well, thinks it will take 330 days to complete this loop upside down. The record on this course is held by Jean-Luc Van Den Heede who completed the loop in 122 days on Adrien, a 25.70 m monohull..
