Gotham Project, Batman's superyacht

The Gotham Project Superyacht

Gotham Project is a 46m long aluminium superyacht with a rather radical design reminiscent of the Batman universe (as its name suggests). In addition to its bold exterior design, it has many features presented as unique by the Icon Yacht Shipyard.

Designed by the Dutch shipyard Icon Yacht and the brokerage company Bristow-Holmes in 2015, during the Monaco Yacht Show, the yacht has just begun construction at the Bloemsma shipyard in Makkum, the Netherlands. Delivery is scheduled for June 2019 and keel laying in October 2017.

The "Gotham Project" is a superyacht with a bold style and many innovations. The exterior and interior design was carried out by Ivan Erdevicki, a Canadian naval architect specializing in the design of luxury superyachts ranging from 30 to 130 m in length. The original concept was also awarded at the International Yacht & Aviation Awards organized by Design et al magazine with the "Best Concept Best Concept Design" prize in the category of yachts of 50 m and over.

Five outdoor living spaces

The Gotham Project has five distinct outdoor areas, all dedicated to one activity:

  • The aft bathing platform incorporates a recessed (in the wall) bar module that folds out to enjoy a welcome drink or refreshment while enjoying water sports.
  • The aft cockpit is particularly spacious with a large U-shaped sofa to accommodate up to 16 people.
  • A sunbathing area on the bow with a swimming pool
  • A large flybridge with a central staircase to reach the sundeck, two symmetrically positioned bars on port and starboard, two U-shaped bench seats with two hydraulic tables that raise and lower to form a very large sunbathing area.
  • A sundeck with a living/dining room for 16 people and two glass tables that allow the sunlight to pass through, which in turn is reflected through glass panels installed on the floor of the sundeck to illuminate the living room. This space is also transformed into a dance floor.

An interior with a "unique look"

Like the exterior, the interior was meticulously designed by the Canadian architect, who himself worked with the owner to create a "unique" interior:

  • A complete audio-visual system throughout the ship, from the retractable outdoor speakers to the movie theatre with ambient lighting.
  • A wine cellar on the lower deck (according to the shipyard, Gotham Project would be the first ship under 60 m to have one).
  • A spacious owner's cabin across the entire width of the boat with glass ceiling, private office, spacious walk-in shower and proper lighting
  • A garage with a side-loading tender and sports hall
  • Accommodation for up to 10 people in 5 cabins
  • Independent crew access to the lower deck to respect privacy
  • A spacious kitchen and laundry room with large capacity refrigerator and freezer for a long cruise.

"State-of-the-art" naval architecture

The designer worked in collaboration with the naval architects Van Oossanen, who developed a patented Vane hull that increases the efficiency of the boat by 20% (autonomy and performance). To date, it is the second largest yacht built with this technology. It will reach a maximum speed of 24.5 knots with two MTU 2000 HP engines (shaft-line propulsion) and will have a range of 2950 miles. Also thanks to the naval architecture developed by Van Oossanen, Icon Yacht announces a 15 to 20% reduction in fuel consumption and an additional speed of 1.5 knots, for a yacht of the same size.

The Gotham Project is presented as "a truly unique yacht and an exciting project, which required the development of something new and different." by its designers.
