Astronaut Thomas Pesquet, who just reached Earth on June 2, 2017, after 6 months in space aboard the International Space Station, took advantage of his stay to immortalize our blue planet. Discover his splendid pictures of these Caribbean islands and archipelagos.

Thomas Pesquet has just spent 6 months on board the International Space Station and made his great comeback on Earth on June 2. During his space stay, he took many pictures of our planet earth and these pictures are just splendid. After Brittany, we invite you to discover the Caribbean islands in pictures, with his comments.

The Bahamas

Intriguing shapes and colours in the Bahamas, but still a postcard blue

The end of the Proxima mission is approaching: more than five weeks. Still so much work... and not enough time to engrave the Bahamian blues in my memory! The return to Earth is scheduled for June 2 - but in space the calendar may change...

Anegada (British Virgin Islands)

I try to post every Friday a picture of an island, just to escape a little before the weekend. Yesterday I made an exception to the rule because of Shane and Peggy's spacewalk, a slightly engaging activity. ;) So here is the picture originally scheduled for Friday. This is Anegada (British Virgin Islands), still in the West Indies

Caribbean

Canadarm admires the beauty of the Caribbean. He might like to spend a holiday there, but the work on the ISS is not waiting!

The blue of the sea is never homogeneous, especially in the Caribbean, and it contrasts nicely with the orange of our solar panels.

Crooked Island, Bahamas

The "Crooked island" in the Bahamas. I can imagine pirates hiding a treasure in it..

Guadeloupe

A recognizable island between a thousand: the butterfly wings of Guadeloupe. Good memories come back to me as we fly over it at 28,000 km/h.

Turks and Caicos Islands

Paradise view over the Caribbean. Turks and Caicos Islands and their shades of blue.

The Abacos Islands

Abacos Islands, Bahamas and Nassau. In the background is Cuba. On the right (behind the ISS) it's South Florida and you can guess the Keys.

Long Island in the Bahamas

On that day the clouds almost perfectly followed the contours of Long Island in the Bahamas archipelago.

Los Roques Archipelago, Venezuela

The coral reef breaks the waves and protects the lagoon of this uninhabited island in the Los Roques archipelago, Venezuela.
