With the 1815, Furuno plays the security card. This radar is not integrated in a chartplotter but remains a stand-alone device. This radar is sufficient to itself to function. It is the insurance to always have a device on the road in case of breakdown.
Despite its small size, this radar is not an entry-level device. Indeed if the screen measures "only" 8,4 inches, it is a color screen associated with a software which offers many functions.
The quality of the colour LCD screen combined with a 4kW radome allows the echoes to be clearly differentiated and recognised at a glance. The sensitivity clearly shows the coastline, boats or buoys on the water surface. This makes this radar a perfect tool for navigation in fog, at night or in squalls.
Automatic settings
To simplify its use, the 1815 is equipped with automatic settings for gain and compensation for rain and sea return. No more hours of tuning in search of performance..
Target tracking
The Fast Target Tracking function automatically acquires and tracks 10 targets. After selecting a target, the radar displays the heading and speed vector. Important information for avoiding collision courses.
True Trail function
When True Trail mode is used, moving targets appear leaving a blue trail on the display screen. These tracks allow you to view the track of vessels.
Connected to an AIS (in NMEA), the radar then serves as a repeater for all the information of this safety system. Up to 100 AIS targets can be tracked and displayed on the screen.
Zoom mode
For better playback, a zoom mode that provides a 2x magnification of an area is also available.
Colour settings
The colors are also adjustable according to the installation of the screen. Indeed, the 1815 is waterproof and can be found in a wheelhouse or at the chart table of a sailboat as well as on a fly or an outdoor open boat. The colour adjustment allows the best reading according to the ambient lighting.
The radar is delivered with a ball-and-socket joint to adjust the display in any position. A ball joint for ceiling mounting is also available as an option.
The 1815 will be available in June 2017 at 2,950 euros (excl. VAT)
