Sounders are becoming more and more efficient. The quality of the images, the sensitivity that allows to distinguish even superimposed echoes, the analysis of the bottom that indicates if it is sand or rock and now the vision on the sides.
Admittedly Furuno is not the first brand of electronic device to offer this mode of operation (side scan). But where others are capable of analysing the bottom at depths of up to 20 or 30 m, the Furuno DFF3D can work at depths of up to 200 m!
How is that possible? The Japanese manufacturer worked with the probe manufacturer Airmar to add a motion sensor to the probe. This way, even if the boat is rolling, the device can correct the measurements according to the boat's movements. The built-in motion sensor stabilizes the image display even in difficult weather conditions.
The multibeam echosounder scans a 120° range from port to starboard under the boat. The cross-section shows the position and depth of fish relative to the boat.
A history function traces the background in 3 dimensions. Depending on the depth, the camera records more or less history. At a depth of 100 m, it is possible to go back 5 minutes. This is ideal for a good understanding of a fishing area and to line up for drifting.
This new sounder is a black box that connects to the TZtouch2 players. It will be available from June 2017 at the price of 3950,00 euros HT.
