The French boating market is on sight for 2016

On September 2, 2016, the Nautical Industries Federation held its back-to-school press conference. The opportunity to take stock of the year's economic market of the nautical industry, which remains stable this year. The recovery of the market will not yet be for 2016!

In 2015, the market had shown signs of recovery with registrations up 0-2%, and the used car market up 5%. These results suggest that 2016 would be an up year.

Yet, despite these encouraging signs, the market remains stable compared to 2015. The sailing sector recorded a 3.4% increase in sales (1,850 units sold) while the powerboat sector recorded a 3.1% decrease (820 units sold).

On the used market, it is also the same trend. After three years of increase, 2016 is a year of stabilization with nearly 60,000 property transfers.

Worldwide, the marine market is growing by 3 to 4%. Europe and the United States are recording growth of less than 5%, which is benefiting French manufacturers, whose sales are mainly for export. In South America, Asia and the rest of the world, growth is declining.

Increase in boat rentals

The 2016 season has seen strong growth in marine rentals (+10 to 12%) with demand for service still strong. Rental between individuals is progressing, but is still looking for an adapted business model. European countries remain a favorite destination for French customers, such as France, Croatia, Greece and Italy.

Equal attendance at marinas

The 2016 season is satisfactory in terms of marina attendance, equivalent to that of 2015, especially with a very good month of August. In the west, the size of visiting boats is increasingly important, with a British population also on the rise. In the Mediterranean (Languedoc-Roussillon-Midi-Pyrénées), August also made up for the poor weather at the beginning of the season. In the PACA region, the attendance was very bad and the season mediocre. Some days were very dense and others very quiet, without any relation with the weather. Maybe a correlation with the Nice attacks in July

New boaters

The 2016 season was satisfactory for clubs and associations with an increased attendance of children and juniors, but a slowdown in adult attendance. In terms of practices, the diversification of activities initiated in 2015 still continues (kite surfing, stand-up paddleâeuros¦).
