Web series / Replacement of the rig on a 30-year-old Dufour 4800 for a round-the-world voyage

Blandine and Max discover the joys of sailing boat maintenance. Their 30 year old Dufour 4800 must take them to the end of the world. Might as well be with the mast in place!

For a round the world trip, it's good to make sure you keep your mast straight on deck! Our amateur crew, passionate and very friendly made a stop at the Grau du Roi at Vega Voile for a complete facelift of the whole rigging. And to be there, the sails also passed on the floor for overhaul.

The bill is a little heavy for Blandine and Max (a little over 3000 euros), but by lending a hand, our happy crew is doing well. The Bohemian mast is completely revised. Complete change of the standing rigging (all cables), overhaul of the electrical wiring, change of a few halyards, modification of the GV halyard flow (it now reaches the cockpit)..

The spreaders were too old and had to be replaced because their base plate did not match any current model. The same goes for the gooseneck and the masthead sheaves.

We asked Blandine why they decided to intervene:" Financially, we're really fair, so we pushed it as far back as we could. When we bought the boat, the expert recommended that we replace the rig, but we preferred to wait. But it was the discovery of a broken strand on a guy rope that forced us to go to the workshop. Finally, we are happy, especially with the sails. We are aware that they are really at the end, but we hope to make them hold a little longer thanks to our repairs. And just in case, Vega Voiles has raised the coast to make us new ones, even if we are at the end of the world! "
