"We think kayaking is one of the best things to do in your free time. Unfortunately, it's pretty hard to be able to carry your kayak and launch it into the water without having a van or a roof rack and a buddy to help you carry and lift your kayak. In the city, it's not even possible." explains the 4 designers of the pakayak, who spent 2 years ½ developing a rigid and transportable kayak.
So they came up with the idea of developing a 14-foot (4.26 m) rigid compressible kayak. To be able to carry it everywhere, it is divided into 6 parts, which fit together to form a single block. In this configuration, it measures ¼ (1 m) the size of a normal kayak and can be carried in a sports bag, backpack or wheel bag.
Thanks to its compact design, it can be stored just as easily, even in a small space. Finally, it can be assembled in a few minutes thanks to its patented clamping system.
This is how Pakayak was developed and tested and it has proven to give excellent results in terms of strength, tightness, and durability. Each section of the kayak connects with a tongue that is fixed in a locking groove. In this way, the silicone gasket between each section is compressed and makes the kayak watertight. In addition, each locking groove acts as a bulkhead that increases the strength of the hull at the connection joints. The parts are held together by a patented clamping system.
The 4 founders are now launching a crowfunding campaign to be able to produce their kayak, which will be designed in the United States during the month of June. Pakayak will then be marketed directly through its website and will be available in specialized canoe and kayak stores.
