La transat de Rémi, boat presentation - Episode 3/10

How does it feel to be on a 10-metre sailboat when you've never sailed before? Here is the third episode of this transat and the discovery of the pleasures of sailing.

His name is Remi.

He sets out across the Atlantic without ever... stepping foot on a boat. After the docking phase, it's the discovery phase of life at sea. The confined space of the boat, community life and above all the pleasure of being alone on watch. An intense moment that he describes well in his logbook.

" Day 7- Transatlantic logbook

It took less than a week for my body to get used to the incessant swaying of the sailboat. Seasickness is an old story, as is the anguish of being surrounded by the water for several more weeks.

Isn't it wonderful to have time for yourself? There are few distractions: reading, eating, sleeping, writing, listening to music, and letting yourself go in your thoughts.

Finally, I have everything I need. I can eat all I want, read too much, meditate on existence, dream about the future and remember my past. The boat is big enough to be able to isolate myself and not encroach on other people's space.

I love to do watches, especially the dawn watches. What's a shift? It's the time when you're in charge of the ship's watch. The others are usually asleep. You check that we're not going to get another boat or if the wind doesn't change direction or strength. In short, I stare at the horizon for two hours, gradually seeing the day rise. The stars disappear little and little and the light begins to appear. A 360 degree gradation in the sky, but also the sea, which on one side is plunged into darkness, while the other side is tinged with orange colours. The sun always ends up making its appearance and its first rays warm me, I write as soon as the light allows it. I like the beginning of the day or rather the end of the night, because yes, I will go back to bed afterwards. I am usually woken up around 4 a.m. to do my shift. It normally lasts two hours, but I like to extend it because I feel with the dawn of the day, inspiration and motivation. I wake up and my mind, after two hours of thinking, is just waiting to express itself. Writing gives me a lot of pleasure. Reading me again too. "
