Marineled, high beam and anchor light in the same bulb

A single bulb to be installed in the traditional light to replace all the lights of the boat. This is what the new Marineled bulb offers. Explanations.

It's just a prototype, a stolen photo of a product not yet fully finalized. But this Marineled bulb which will be commercialized next February could be very useful for us boaters.

Rather than installing a new monolithic light with non-replaceable bulbs, Marineled prefers to work on bulbs that are installed in the existing lights to replace the traditional filament bulbs. As a reminder, a high beam bulb, to offer the required range is 20 W, the same LED light consumes only 3 W. An important energy saving when we know that the light must remain on during all the long hours of the night.

Three operating modes in one bulb.

The new Tri combo is a bulb capable of lighting 360 ° in white, but also to represent the tricolored sectors. Thus, one and the same bulb can be used as an anchor light and a high beam! Powered by the same BAY15D base, only 2 wires reach the bulb. How to choose the ignition mode ? To differentiate the lighting modes (anchor light, navigation light or flash), a microprocessor integrated in the bulb calculates the power supply time.

Thus, if you press the switch that powers the masthead light, the bulb lights up in white. If you turn it off and on again in less than 5 seconds, the bulb lights up in tricolor. And if you start again the same manipulation, the bulb flashes quickly in white.

One bulb for all lights!

The advantages of such a setup are well understood. A single bulb at the head of the mast in a small basic fire, a single wire, a single switch. When you know that simple things break down lessâeuros¦

In terms of manufacturing, this bulb uses SMD LEDs (flat LEDs) that maintain visibility even at 25° angles, as required by the EN14744 standard. This is important for a sailboat that heels. The "water drop" LEDs (often used, because they are cheaper) have a very low light angle (15°).

In terms of power, this same standard requires a light intensity of 5.5 candelas for the color sectors. But the Tri Combo bulb offers an intensity of 25 candelas. Similarly for radio emissions, to avoid that LEDs do not interfere with the VHF, the bulb passes the EN60945 standard.

To ensure that the sectors of the traffic light are well aligned with the boat without having to move the masthead light, the bulb is equipped with a blocking device with 3 micro-screws that allows it to be rotated before blocking it in the axis of the boat.

This model is also equipped with a cell on the top to light the light as soon as the light intensity drops. In this case, the light will necessarily be in wetting light mode (white 360°).

Marketed at the end of January 2016

Offered at about 85 euros, this bulb will clearly simplify our mastheads and avoid the superposition of several lights. A single small model with a white cap will now suffice.
