Clothes for seasickness, info or intoxication?

Wear is my Boat markets clothes to counteract seasickness. Curious, we asked Philippe Danckaert, co-founder, to explain what is behind this promise...

Rebalance the deficit of muscular tonicity thanks to infrared waves

How can a garment fight against seasickness when we know that it is a disorder of the inner ear? At first glance, it seems impossible. Especially since we interviewed a seasickness specialist, Dr. Loïs Bonne, who has developed a technique to solve the conflict at sea, optokinetic rehabilitation. And when I asked him if the anti-seasickness objects worked to relieve the patients, he answered that he had not worked on them, but that they could work for those who were really at the end of their tether and ready to do anything to heal themselves.

So we contacted the designers of the brand Wear is My Boat and it is Philippe Danckaert, co-founder, who answered us. And his speech is rather convincing and well worked. Because to my initial question about seasickness and the inner ear, he answered " Yes, but it's not just çaâeuros¦"

The Wear is My Boat adventure began in 2013, when Philippe and Olivier decided to exploit the findings of a group of French scientists. The latter started from the observation that all forms of kinetosis (motion sickness) have as a common basis a moment when one finds oneself in deficit of muscle tone. "Here is the example the teacher gave us: If you are driving your car, even in the mountains, or steering your boat, you are active and focused, so your body is toned. But if you take the passenger seat or get out of the cockpit, your body is relaxed. That's when seasickness is going to be born."

So far, the reasoning is sound.

It is therefore from this observation that the founders of Wear Is My Boat thought about how they could increase muscle tone with a garment. And to do this, they used an old recipe, that of infrared. They have developed a membrane printed (triangles, squares, chevrons) on fabrics and that makes a barrier to infrared.

The human body radiates infrared rays (that's why we are seen with a thermal camera) and when they enter our body, they warm us up. However, cold is a known aggravating factor of seasickness. So, when infrareds enter our body, they tone our muscles. As a result, the fabric used for Wear Is my Boat clothing acts as a barrier to prevent the waves from escaping. Thus, when the rays leave our body, they hit the membrane and re-enter our body to tone the muscles. This membrane increases the resistance to seasickness.

Here too, everything seems rather plausible.

Finding the theory interesting, Olivier and Philippe proceeded to a battery of tests on the port, during 18 months. They distributed samples, notably to boat rental companies, and the feedback was so good that they decided to go for it.

In April 2014 was born Wear is My Boat and the first sales took place during the Yachting Festival in Cannes. Then followed many trade shows to make the brand known: METS, Grand Pavois crouesty, Nauticâeuros¦

Today, word of mouth is working well and the brand is starting to make a name for itself. According to Philippe, the feedback is more than positive. Buyers are happy, which reinforces the brand. "Out of over 2,000 products sold, we refunded two." says Philippe.

On this one, you have to decide to take Philippe's word for it (or not). It's up to you!

"We're not selling a miracle product, we're selling a product that is made in an original way. We can understand if you are skeptical and want to try it to verify." says Philippe.

Ideas to develop the brand

In order to continue their momentum, Pascal and Philippe have ideas to develop their brand: very low temperature range "We're in the midst of raising funds, but the product is already ready. We already have two prototypes." made in France collection or customization.
