Quiksilver and Roxy Pro France welcome the world's best surfers

From October 6 to 17, the beaches of the Landes region will host the best surfers in the world for the ninth stage of the Samsung Galaxy Championship Tour, and the only French stage.

The Quiksilver and Roxy Pro France will take place from October 6 to 17 in Hossegor, in the Landes region of France. The world's elite âeuro surfers, both men and women, will gather in France for this unique French stage of the Samsung Galaxy Championship Tour. This competition is the most important and most expected French stage and the penultimate stage that will allow to know the world N° 1.

Four Frenchmen present on the Landes stage

Jérémy Florès, who recently beat the reigning world champion Gabriel Medina in Tahiti, will be coming to play at home. The Reunionese is currently ranked 8 e in the WSL ranking and wants to win this French stage. But he has never had a good performance at home.

Michel Bourez will also be on the water, but his place in the world's surfing elite is clearly in question. While he won two races last year and finished in 5th place, he is still in the running for the title e in the world rankings, he is now at 25 e place, after 8 steps.

Johanne Defay will be the only French and European of the TC. Last year, the semifinals had allowed her to impose herself on the international scene. At the beginning of August, she won the US Open and reached the quarterfinals of the last stage of the Samsung Galaxy Championship Tour, in Cascais, Portugal, two weeks ago. While she is currently ranked #6 e place in the ranking, she is now aiming for the top 5.

Finally, Maxime Huscenot has just received a wild card to participate in the competition. He is the second after the American Dans Reynolds. Five years after being invited to this great Landes competition, he will once again find the world elite of the circuit. 14 e of the QS ranking and first European, he will be able to show the extent of his talent.

Mike Fanning, the favorite of the event

Much is expected of Mike Fanning, who is clearly the favorite for the event. With his victory in the last World Tour event at Lower Trestles, the Australian surfer has taken the lead in the provisional rankings. He also has three world championship titles (2007, 2009 and 2013).

What is the Wild Card?

To participate in a Wolrd Tour event, you must be part of the world's surfing elite. That is to say to belong to the 45 best surfers or the 17 best surfers. Otherwise, to be close to the best surfers, there is the wildcard, which is an invitation, awarded either by the sponsor of the event to their best surfers, or won during a parallel competition, called trials.
