Take part in the "I sail, I sort" operation in 30 Blue Flag ports

For the 5th year, the association Vacances Propres, focused on marine waste prevention, launched the operation "I sail, I sort." on July 8

Educate boaters to sort their waste

It is in Bormes-les-Mimosas, in the Var (83) that the 100% awareness operation was launched. The Mayor of the town was present, along with the Vice President of the French Federation of Marinas and many partners of the association. For the first time, the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy supports this operation.

This summer, the operation will be deployed in 30 Blue Flag marinas, compared to 25 last year. The objective of this operation is to encourage boaters to adopt the right behavior at sea by means of a facilitating collection system: "Nothing overboard, all my trash in port!"

"The priorities in the fight against marine litter are prevention, primarily through education, and developmentâeuros¦" explains François Galgani, the 2015 sponsor, oceanographer at Ifremer, specialist in marine pollution.

The operation has been a great success and has won the support of boaters, who are increasingly aware of the need for cleanliness and sorting on board. In 2013, there were 90,000 participants and in 2014, 95,000.

Each yachtsman participating in the operation will have a reusable bag reserved for sorting packaging. They will also have self-service access to a 30-liter garbage bag dispenser installed in participating ports for their non-recyclable waste. All the details of the operation will be posted in the ports of the operation.

A more than positive balance sheet for 2014

In 2014, the "I sail, I sort" operation in which 25 Blue Flag-labeled marinas participated proved positive. A total of 95,000 boaters participated, and in just two months, 24,000 trash bags were used, 19,500 sorting tote bags and 35,000 flyers distributed.

More than 1 in 2 participating ports noted an increase in sorting compared to the previous edition. All of them wanted to repeat the operation in 2015.
