The curiosities of the 2014 Grand Pavois - Outstanding boats

Among the curiosities of the Grand Pavois, it remains to see the boats which have a particular design, a singular history or an unconventional use

The Formula 1 boat

In front of the press area, it looks like a UFO. A boat? More like a racing machine. However, built by Moore Formula, leader in the construction of carbon speed boats, the F1 belongs to the category of boats designed for motor racing circuits. The model exhibited at the Grand Pavois belongs to the Dessertenne Motor Sport team.

It was aboard a similar model that Team Drakkar, sponsored by the company Nollet and associated with Team Dessertenne, won the World Endurance Championship for the fourth consecutive time.

Cybèle, the pleasure junk that had never sailed

Cybèle is a pleasure junk built on the model of her Asian sisters, sailing in the China Sea. Built in 1976 by a Parisian shipyard according to the plans of the architect Dimitri Le Forestier, she has only suffered from disrepair. Unfinished at the death of her builder, she was sold to a French entrepreneur based in Ivory Coast. Upon his return to France, 20 years later, he decided to motorize it to be able to sail along the African coast during his retirement. Brought to a construction site to finish the fitting out, she will suffer the Xynthia storm and will be completely devastated. Mr. Brouard is devastated and sees his dream go away, but he decides to entrust its restoration to the Remise à flot yard in 2011, a social integration yard of the âeuros Maison de quartier de Port Neuf. She finally discovered the sea in 2013 and is now moored in the Old Port of La Rochelle.

Pa Yeng, a pleasure junk chartered for cruises

This 13-meter long pleasure junk is moored in front of the Café du Commerce, a famous restaurant in Ars-en-Ré. Owned by a sailor named Pierre Olivier, owner of the restaurant, the junk, whose name translates into French as Aigle Blanc, is rented out for sea cruises.

Nimrod of Hamble, James Bond's boat in "From Russia with Love

Built in 1969 by the Fairey Marine shipyards in Hamble Southampton, England, Nimrod of Hamble is an offshore launch. Installed in Nantes since 2013, this racing boat has been entirely restored by its owner thanks to the participation of local companies. He wishes to use it to realize excursions and connections on the Loire, the Erdre and the Atlantic coast.

This little star is the 111 of a series of 119 built between 1960 and 1971. Forty models are still listed, including two in France. Inside there are three berths, a sanitary block and a kitchen. It can reach up to 30 knots (55 km/hour) thanks to its two original Perkins engines.

In 2013, she obtained the label Bateau d'Intérêt Patrimonial and can be seen in the James Bond film "From Russia with Love", made in 1963, with Sean Connery as 007 at the helm of one of the stars Fairey of the same model.

The Joshua ketch by Bernard Moitessier
