Having already won the Open Week held the previous week, the sailor from Arcachon finished the World Championships in second place, a result that puts a French sailor back on the Europe Class world podium for the first time since 2002.
A decisive week under particularly challenging conditions
The championship did not follow the usual course of a major international event. After several days marked by winds nearing 30 knots, the first three days of the World Championship were canceled. When the races were finally able to get underway, the competitors had to contend with particularly challenging conditions on the water. A strong swell from the north, a pronounced surface current, irregular choppy water, and steady winds made each race particularly selective.
Under these circumstances, Cyril Richard stood out for his consistency. Throughout the nine races, he consistently finished near the top of the leaderboard, most often coming in second or third.
