The Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm will be the backdrop for a new coastal regatta to be held on June 20 and 21, 2026. Called "100 milles éoliens, la nuit du solstice", the race, sponsored by Iberdrola France and the Comité Départemental de Voile des Côtes d'Armor, marks the return of a night-time event to the bay, with a course designed around the offshore installations.
A night race around the wind turbines
The start will be given on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at noon from Binic, with a tide-dependent lock passage between 9:30 and 12:40. The first competitors are expected to arrive at the Port d'Armor in Saint-Quay-Portrieux the following day, before a prize-giving ceremony at 3pm.
The announced route covers around 70 nautical miles around the Saint-Brieuc wind farm. Crews will sail close to the wind turbines and the electrical substation, while respecting the regulatory safety distances. The route may be adapted according to the weather. A maximum of 50 boats is expected at the start.
This regatta follows in the footsteps of previous night races in the bay, notably the Nuit de la Saint-Jean and the St Quay Hell's Rock. The choice of the summer solstice should make night sailing shorter and clearer for the crews.
A partnership established in 2012
The event also marks the culmination of a fourteen-year partnership between Iberdrola France, via Ailes Marines, and the Comité Départemental de Voile des Côtes d'Armor. Since 2012, a number of local initiatives have been supported in the Côtes d'Armor region, focusing on light sailing, regattas and education about the sea.
The race is also part of the IBreizh program, launched in 2022 with the Brittany Region to support projects linked to the maritime economy, tourism and marine renewable energies.
Loïg Chesnais-Girard, President of the Brittany Region, believes that " this regatta, co-financed by the IBreizh fund, is an excellent initiative. It demonstrates that the coexistence of maritime activities and the production of renewable marine energy is possible ".
