Seldén E40rev reversible electric winch, a different way to manage manoeuvres

Seldén presented the E40rev, an electric winch capable of operating in both directions. The aim of this approach is to keep control of the setting, without multiplying gestures or exposing hands to the rope.

Reducing physical effort without losing control of the sail is a constant preoccupation on board, especially in short-handed sailing. With the E40rev, Seldén offers a reversible electric winch, capable of operating in both directions, for both tucking and slackening, without changing configuration or moving the rope.

A winch designed for control

The E40rev stands out for its reversible operation. Unlike a conventional electric winch, which is limited to planking, this model can also be used for electric shock-absorbing, with progressive control of the maneuver. Two speeds are available, selected according to load and desired precision.

Control is by push-button. The principle is simple: the rope remains permanently in the self-tailing device, and manoeuvring is done without manual retrieval of the rope. This logic reduces handling and minimizes risk, especially when the load is heavy.

A proven technical base: the ART doll

The E40rev winch is based on the patented ART headstock developed by Seldén. This rope-gripping system is already used on other Seldén models. It ensures an even grip and limits slippage, even under heavy loads.

This architecture also allows manual operation of the winch in the event of a power failure. The sailor therefore retains an emergency mode, without total dependence on the electrical system. A point that remains essential for many yachtsmen, especially on the high seas.

Integration into the Seldén electrical ecosystem

Like the brand's other electrical equipment, the E40rev is powered by the 42V SEL Bus system. This architecture is designed to centralize equipment power and control, while limiting losses and cable cross-sections.

The control box and power supply are available separately. The installation is therefore part of an overall approach to the boat's electrical system, and not simply an isolated addition.

Availability and planned developments

The E40rev is scheduled to hit the market in spring 2026. Seldén is already planning to roll out larger models based on the same reversible principle by the end of 2026. This is a clear indication of Seldén's intention to extend the concept to larger, more heavily-loaded units.

The recommended retail price is ?3,390 incl. VAT, excluding control box and power supply.
