SailGP and American Magic set up in Pensacola, a new training center in Florida

SailGP and American Magic have opened a joint training base in Pensacola, a first on the circuit. The site becomes a permanent base for the preparation of the North American teams, which will begin training in September 2026.

The creation of a permanent training base marks a structuring step for SailGP and American Magic, which has drawn a line under the next America's Cup. By setting up in Pensacola, Florida, the two organizations have created a stable framework for technical and sporting preparation, outside the rhythm of race weekends.

Pensacola becomes American Magic's first permanent base and SailGP's North American training center. The area offers a sheltered stretch of water, regular wind conditions and port logistics suited to flying catamarans. For SailGP, this positioning means that preparation can be centralized on the American continent, without having to depend solely on the competition venues.

A shared base for all SailGP teams

The Pensacola base will operate as a shared facility, managed by SailGP. Schedules will be coordinated to ensure equitable access for all teams competing in the championship.
On-water training and on-shore operations will be grouped together on the same site, with American Magic in charge of providing technical crews and security personnel. Access will be charged on a session-by-session basis, with each team paying only for the days actually used.

Continuous preparation beyond the races

The objective is clear: to enable teams to train and test outside the official rounds. The aim is to facilitate testing, set-up work and crew progress throughout the season.
SailGP specifies that all teams will be subject to the same standards and procedures, in order to preserve sporting fairness. This approach is designed to smooth out differences in preparation between structures with different resources.

American Magic, an expanded training platform

For American Magic, this base is part of a larger vision. Project co-founder Doug DeVos explains that Pensacola is to become a focal point for youth, women's, Olympic and SailGP programs.
In a statement "The American Magic High Performance Center is the cornerstone of our long-term vision, to build a sustainable, high-performance American sailing platform." doug DeVos, co-founder of American Magic.
